Villa Borghese: central Rome’s largest park

Villa Borghese, central Rome’s largest park, is a place where history meets nature and art. With its 85 hectares of parkland it is one of Europe’s largest city parks, providing ample opportunity for relaxing and entertainment.

The park consists of various natural landscapes and gardens, perfect for a relaxing walk or a picnic in this Mediterranean landscape. Several gardens within the park have a differentiated design, making it interesting to go and discover all of them. For art-lovers several museums are present, such as the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art and the Borghese Gallery. But various sculptures, statutes and villa’s also give a hint of the cultural history of this area. The House of Cinema is also housed within the park.

But even next to the cultural and historic importance of parks as this one, city parks carry a huge importance when it comes to well-being for people. They provide natural escape from busy city life, they give room for relaxation and provide clean(er) air. In times of climatic change and a process that is occurring and is called city-heat (which means that the temperature in cities is higher than in their surroundings), parks carry a huge importance in bringing the temperature down, especially in Mediterranean places.

Villa Borghese is located in the heart of the city, making it one of the most preferred parks for locals to meet up and for travelers to visit on a short trip in Rome. It is well worth it!
