Sarphatipark: typical city park in a local neighbourhood of Amsterdam

The neighbourhood called “De Pijp” can easily be reached from the city center (even by walking), and gives a completely different view on the city. It’s a more local area, providing a more authentic view on the city. A nice relaxing point in this area is Sarphatipark.

The park obtained its name from Samuel Sarphati, the person that took the initiative of forming this park. It’s a typical “city park”, similar to parks as you could find in other historic European cities (such as Vienna or Antwerp). A rather formal English garden style is what you’ll find here, whereas the water is a very important feature of the park. Is it because of this, or because of its tranquillity, in any case the Sarphatipark is truly used by the local citizens, especially on sunny days you’ll find quite some people here.

Surrounding the park, you can find some interesting residential housing and a nice specialty coffee bar, as well as various interesting, independent cafés, shops and eateries in the wider area.
