Parque del Retiro: large and popular park in Madrid

Parque del Retiro is one of central Madrid’s largest parks, with a total size of 118 hectares. Inside a variety of interesting spots can be found, various walkways, more forested areas, sculptures, monuments, and so on. Though the most known and popular part might be the central lake in the park. People even hire boats for the lake, which we don’t really understand , but the lake does provide a peaceful setting.

You’ll also find several gardens, art galleries, monument walks, etc. If you need some green setting, you should definitely check out this park which is often referred to as “El Retiro”. The fact that this park is seen as one of Madrid’s highlights also gives a hint on the varied opportunities to discover here. And if you’re in central Madrid, it’s perfectly possible to reach the park by walking (even though various metro-stations are spread across the borders of the park). The area surrounding the park is an interesting sight on itself, with plenty of cafes, shops and restaurants. Parque del Retiro is popular with the local Madrilenos (especially when one of the many events are held here), with travelers, and visiting will explain you why that is.
