Montjuïc is one of Barcelona’s city center green lungs.

Next to Parc de la Ciutadella; Montjuïc is one of the green longs providing much needed oxygen for Barcelona’s city centre. It is full of gardens, recreational activities and accessible by metro, foot (and escalators at the fountains) or two different cable cars (one leaving close to the beach, the other one starting close to the National Museum of Art of Catalonia).

Landmarks include the magic fountains (which in summer on weekend-evenings include a fountain-show), The National Museum of Art of Catalonia, the castle of Montjuïc, the Museum Joan Miró, the old Olympic stadium and the botanical garden (which is relatively knew in Montjuïc), even though it has a large history. The hill of Montjuïc undoubtly provides enough choices to pass half or a full day here. While the recreational activities provide great leisure time (and some small stalls can provide you with a drink and snack), it might be the views on the city and harbour that get you most stunned, since they are terrific.

But walking around this area, you’ll find many small gardens, small corners with a nice bench, making it a great place for a picnic, for a hike, or to read a book in every season of the year. Montjuïc is a touristic highlight, though thanks to its size provides enough quiet corners to fulfil every one’s needs. In summer, on specific dates open air movies are shown here, which offer a great activity to enjoy with family or friends.
