AtayaCaffe: the café where Italian and Senegalese hospitality meet in Prenzlauer Berg

If you have had the chance yet to visit Senegal, you’ll have noticed the particular hospitality. Senegal is a country that has to be explored within its communities, in the houses of the local people and through meeting and hanging out with locals at all times. Doors of the people open up easily, and the hospitality makes it a place in Western Africa that is truly unique. And it’s exactly this hospitality AtayaCaffe aims to bring to Berlin.

Atayacaffe BerlinAtayaCaffee because ataya is a tea, but it’s much more than that. It’s a ceremony, a moment in which people gather and share stories and coziness. In the colourful setting of this café, you’ll be served delicious veggie food while discovering this particular hospitality. Senegalese dishes, but nicely mixed with Italian influences, because that’s the second part of AtayaCaffe’s story. To use organic and fair ingredients is a definite choice, with sustainability a priority principle of the café. They’re member of the VEBU association for veggie food, and if you’re so as well, you get a discount in the café.

If you have the feeling you want to get to know more about Senegal and its culture, you should talk with the friendly founders of the café, they do organize travels to Senegal as well.

Check out the interview we had with Elisabetta and Bachir, the founders of AtayaCaffe, sharing their story, values and goals.
